The once respected FourFourTwo magazine has compiled a list of the top 50 best managers in world football, and some of their inclusions are bizarre to say the least!
After failing in China and being out of a job for almost a year, Van Bronckhorst first made the cowardly decision to watch the league cup semi-final against Hibs from the stands as he saw his Sevco team thrashed 3-1 at Hampden by the Hibees. He has since gone on a good run of wins, while at the same time not facing any quality opposition. He hasn’t played Celtic yet and Lyon are the only decent side he has faced, although they are currently a disastrous 13th in the French league currently, Gio’s Sevco side only managed a draw against them.
Van Bronckhorst’s position of 41st best manager in the world has him ahead of European Cup winning manager Rafa Benitez who was in 47th place, and Barcelona Legend Xavi at 50.
But while Gio’s ranking in the top 50 is strange, Gerrard being named as the 16th best manager in world football is utterly ridiculous.
Even when he left Sevco their fans admitted he was overrated. One trophy out of ten. It took him 3 seasons to win one league title. Neil Lennon won a treble against this man. St Johnstone won two cup competitions last season with Gerrard’s Sevco once again getting knocked out of both competitions. I could go on.
Just to put this absurd claim into perspective, Multiple time Serie A winning manager and two time Champions League finalist Massimiliano Allegri was ranked behind Gerrard at 31st, Three time Champions League winning manager Zinedine Zidane was placed 28th and three time Champions League winning manager Carlo Ancelotti was ranked 23rd.
Quite frankly this in an embarrassing list from FourFourTwo. Did they down a bottle of Deludamol before compiling it!?
This publication has definitely had a downturn in quality, yesterday it claimed Ipox has the best atmosphere in the UK which isn’t even remotely true. Celtic Park has been lauded by players like Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and Zlatan and has the best atmosphere in Europe. These top names in the game aren’t making this point just to curry favour with our support they’ve no need to do that. 4-4-2 is merely a rag now having once been a thoroughly good football magazine, its standards are very low and it’s clear for all to see. Their opinion carries no weight in respected circles any more. Gerrard isn’t even the 16th best manager from Liverpool.
