Charlie Nicholas has given his team of the year so far in the SPFL this season. Surprisingly, for someone who likes to slag off Celtic every chance he gets, Nicholas has been much more positive of late, especially in his praise of manager Ange Postecoglou.
He has continued this by surprisingly selecting six Celtic players in his best eleven, and perhaps even more surprisingly to some, selecting only two Sevco players.
Honestly, I can’t complain too much about the team he’s picked. It looks good and of course includes the likes of Jota, Rogic and Kyogo which are guaranteed to be in there. He also picked Hart, McGregor and Ralston who all fully deserve to be in there too.
But one surprise is Nicholas has put Sevco player Calvin Bassey in as his best centre back so far this season. A very strange choice considering he only started playing there recently once Van Bronckhorst took charge and while playing decent most games, albeit not having much to contend with against most teams in the league, he has looked very shaky at times and also struggles to play out from the back.
For me, and I imagine every other Celtic supporter reading this, Cameron Carter-Vickers has been a stand out for us at the back this season, contributing massively to us having the best defensive record in the league. Strong, quick, wins everything in the air and can bring the ball out from the back well, he has been a very good signing for Celtic on loan from Spurs, and as latest reports suggest, Celtic are looking to make the move a permanent one.
