The January transfer window is now well underway, with Celtic already bringing in three signings so far, with rumours of possibly two or three more on the way, there are now rumours of who will be on their way out.
One of these players in young Ewan Henderson. Latest reports say that he is on the verge of joining Hibs under new manager Shaun Maloney, who worked with the player during his time as youth coach at Celtic. The deal mentioned is the rest of the season on loan at Easter Road, with Hibs having the option to sign Henderson permanently in the summer.
This could potentially be a huge error from the club. Every time Henderson has been given chance in the first team he has done well. He is still only 21 years of age and could have a very bright future ahead of him.
For me, the best thing for Henderson would be to go out on loan, and Hibs under Maloney would be a great option, but if he goes to Hibs and does really well for the rest of the season, it would be good for him to come back in the new season and assess him then to see if he can make the grade.
An option to buy only benefits Hibs. The fee won’t be anything substantial. We have seen how much the Benfica fans have been left frustrated at Jota coming to Celtic and doing very well, but face the option of losing him permanently for a fairly small fee in comparison to how well he’s done. I would hate to end up in the same boat as them.
He is out of contract in the summer and it looks as if he has not been offered an extension so in that case if he goes we might as well sell him for something rather than nothing… Problem is he is so far down the pecking order and to be honest I don’t know if anyone knows his position?
