With Kyogo still out injured for the foreseeable future and Maeda most likely going to be starting on the bench according to manager Ange Postecoglou’s comments today, there are only two real options to choose from to start up front.
Giorgos Giakoumakis and Liel Abada.
I wrote an article a few games back, stating they would both get game time between then and the derby game to stake their place as the starting striker.
Giakoumakis started each game since then and scored twice, once against Hearts and once against Alloa.
Abada has also scored twice, the late winner in the last game against Dundee Utd and he also scored against Alloa.
I said in that article I think we need to go with Abada up front. And based on what I’ve seen in the last three games, I’m sticking to that opinion.
Why? Because if we need a goal and if either Giakoumakis or Abada is going to be on the end of a ball into the box, I’m much more confident Abada puts it away. He just looks much more comfortable at the present time. He looks really confident.
Giakoumakis has missed far too many chances of late for me to feel confident about him starting tomorrow night.
Yes, we could even play both with Abada starting on the right, but honestly with no Kyogo or Maeda, I’d rather start him through the middle, with Jota on the left and Forrest on the right.
Let’s see if the manager feels the same way.
