We all know what Kris Boyd meant by his disgraceful comments towards Celtic captain Callum McGregor about testing out his protective face mask.
The paper he wrote it in knows what he meant by it. Sky Sports know what he meant by it.
But the way it was worded and his article clarifying what he claims he actually meant by these words, he was able to wriggle his way out of it, without any serious consequences.
Sky Sports aren’t going to sack Boyd.
Not unless he does something absolutely outrages that cannot be disputed or brushed away.
You can read back on all the articles I’ve wrote about Boyd. I don’t like him. I think he’s a goon. A prat of the highest order.
But does he make the pre game, half time and post match show more interesting? Absolutely. Sky will absolutely see it this way.
Sevco fans want to watch him to see if he winds up Celtic fans or ex players in the studio.
Celtic fans want to watch him because we love to see him rage and make a fool of himself.
And the neutrals probably enjoy both.
I think it was Roger Hannah on Clyde SSB who made a fair point, that Boyd does talk up the Scottish game whenever he can. So Sky will be happy with that type of promotion.
Also, do we really want to go back to the days with one presenter and boring old Neil McCann in the studio putting us all to sleep? I don’t.
I honestly cannot wait to see his face when Celtic win or Sevco drop points and the camera cuts back to him in the studio. It’s great entertainment.
But I’ll reiterate what I said previously, Boyd’s comments about McGregor were beyond the pale. I was hoping Celtic would deal with it strongly and mentioned a potential ban from Celtic Park for the rest of the season, but it looks like that won’t happen as Callum McGregor has said Boyd spoke to him and the beef has been squashed so to speak.
Boyd is a clown. In my opinion he’s a poor pundit. He can barely string a sentence together. But I’d absolutely love to be watching him in the studio on Sky Sports to see his face when we beat Sevco again and when we reclaim the league title.
