Sevco Chief Confirms Sydney Cup Huge Windfall, Equal To Entire Season In SPFL!

Sevco Commercial Chief James Bisgrove has confirmed the Ibrox club will receive their biggest ever financial deal for participating in this type of tournament.

Speaking to Rangers TV, Bisgrove said:

“The participation in this event over eight days will benefit the club to the same level as an entire season in the SPFL Premiership for two friendly games”

It is quite a vague statement from Bisgorve, especially with no sums of money quoted, although I’m sure these will leak soon enough. Does he mean in terms of prize money at the end of the season? You would have to assume this is what he means, and not including season tickets and merchandise sales and all that.

According to TotaSportal, the prize money this season to the SPFL winners is £5m, and second place is £4m. Although I have also seen figures quoted of just over £3m to the winner and just over £2m to the runners up, which is probably more realistic.

I would think the fee Sevco and Celtic would receive would be in the region of £2.5m, if I was to guess based on these figures and what Bisgrove has said.

Obviously Sevco are desperate for the money and would not think twice about this kind of deal, but Celtic could probably sell Ajeti in the summer and get the same money, rather than sell their soul like this.
