Why Keevins And Others Are Wrong About Europe Helping Sevco’s Chances Of Winning SPFL Over Celtic

I’ve heard this theory being stated a few times this week by pundits and now again by Hugh Keevins on Clyde SSB tonight, that Sevco having success in the Europa League will mean they will carry on that success into the league.

That is totally untrue. The last two results against Dortmund prove that.

If you want to say competing in Europe won’t hurt their chances of success in the SPFL, I wouldn’t have a problem with that, as nobody knows and it may or may not, but to actually say having success in Europe WILL HELP them in the league, is total rubbish.

They had an amazing result beating Dortmund in Germany, they then dropped points away to Dundee Utd days later, so it clearly didn’t help them then.

In the second leg they had another great result, getting another point from Dortmund and qualifying for the last 16 of the Europa League. What happened next? They dropped yet more points, this time at home to Motherwell, even after being 2-0 up. Yet more proof that having a good European result will not then transfer to having a good result in the next league game.

In my view, it is going to hurt them, that’s why I don’t care if they progress further in Europe, as long as they don’t win the tournament, which I don’t believe they will, but as long as they keep having to play Thurs-Sun, it certainly isn’t going to help them. Not this late on in the season when players are tiring and they will face tougher fixtures after the split.

No chance.
