Seriously, are we going to have to listen to this story dredged up every single time John McGinn plays for Scotland?
It was boring two years ago, even more so now.
Yes, Celtic should have signed McGinn, we know that. We don’t need it repeated every three or four months.
We get it.
We don’t need hacks like English bringing it back up like he’s just had an epiphany and he’s the only one who thinks it would have been a good idea.
It will probably go down as one of Lawwell’s greatest failures as Celtic Chief Executive, penny pinching and taking too long to act, only for Aston Villa to come in for the player and turn his head.
But this was almost four years ago now. It’s time to forget it and move on and just hope that McGinn decides to come back up the road down the line, which as a Celtic fan, I’m sure that is something he would like to do eventually.
The story goes that Celtic were interested and he wanted to come, but didn’t make a proper effort or put in an acceptable bid, leaving Aston Villa to come in and make the player feel much more wanted than we did, with the guarantee of first team football, something that we couldn’t give him at the time, although he was seen as the long term replacement from Scott Brown, he wasn’t going to come in and displace Brown or Callum McGregor straight away.
I’m sure there are a hundred players we could have signed, but didn’t, that went on to have successful careers, I don’t hear their names dredged up constantly.
Hacks like English need to get over it.
Celtic supporters have.
