Rumours seem to be growing that Japanese sensation Kyogo Furuhashi will be fit to play in the potentially title defining Glasgow derby at midday this Sunday.
Kyogo hasn’t played for 3 months after suffering a serious injury, and didn’t even play in the bounce game at Lennoxtown recently.
But he did seem to be back in training a couple of weeks ago, and many believe he will be fit for selection on Sunday.
The general consensus amongst supporters and pundits alike, is that Giorgos Giakoumakis will start up front for Ange’s bhoys, with Kyogo likely to start on the bench.
Personally, I would be happy with this. The big Greek striker is in terrific form, and I don’t think dropping him when he is scoring a lot of goals at the moment, would be the best thing to do.
Also, it may be too much to ask to throw Kyogo straight back in to start such a hugely important match, it may be too much to ask physically, giving the pace and physical nature of these fixtures, but also it may be tough to deal with mentally, for him to return in such a high pressured game at Ibrox.
But I wouldn’t put it past Ange to spring a surprise and start Kyogo.
He wasn’t expected to start in the Scottish Cup Final, but Ange put him in and it paid off massively for us, so Ange might be thinking along the same lines this time around.
Also, Sevco will be expecting Giakoumakis to start and Gio will be preparing his defence accordingly to play against him, so starting Kyogo may set the cat amongst the pigeons and throw their defensive planning out the window.
It will be very interesting to see how this plays out and if we get any confirmation of Kyogo’s availability in the next few days.
