Speaking live in the Talksport Studio today, alongside presenter Jim White, controversial pundit Simon Jordan claimed that it would be ‘preposterous’ if Villarreal get into the Champions League Group Stages Next year in place of the Scottish Champions, and claimed it would be totally ‘unfair’.
He also claims that if the Scottish Champions were to miss out on the competition, which will most likely be Celtic, that they should receive compensation of £20m-£40m.
White and Jordan also discussed the possibility of a 4th place team missing out, for example if Villarreal won the Champions League, the team that finished 4th in La Liga should miss out instead of the Scottish Champions.
Jordan referencing the Lisbon Lions in 1967, being the first ever British team to win the European Cup, and claimed the if we were to miss out after winning the Scottish Premiership this season, then it would be ‘preposterous’.
He also did say though that he doesn’t believe Villarreal will win it, which I agree with.
Liverpool will be far to strong for them in the Semi’s.
If they were to win it though, I do believe that the best case solution would be to remove the 4th best team in La Liga, so Celtic can still participate.
If we still got the £40m or even half of it, yeah it would be nice for our accounts, but our players deserve to be playing in the Champions League next season, and we deserve to watch our team compete in the competition.
It will also help us in attracting new signings in the summer, and allow us to keep hold of the likes of Jota and CCV.
