One of the main areas that Celtic and Ange Postecoglou will be looking to strengthen in this summer is the left back slot.
Greg Taylor is the current No.1 choice and I think it’s fair to say he has played the best football in his Celtic career over the last few months.
But big questions still remain if Taylor is good enough to be Celtic’s first choice left back moving forward, especially with the club entering into the Champions League next season.
Celtic were linked recently with Swedish based Iraqi left back Mohanad Jeahze, but the Hammarby sporting director seemed to pour cold water on that link, claiming he wasn’t aware of any interest from Celtic, with Postecoglou also claiming that he wasn’t aware of the player.
Now a new potential target has emerged in exciting Argentine left back Francisco Ortega, who has been capped several times for both Argentina U23’s and U20’s and plays his football for Velez Sarsfield.
The bhoys from the Argentina CSC have given their approval of the player stating that Ortega would be a ‘really good signing’.
He looks a fast, tricky player who is able to go by his man and put crosses into the box.
For all Taylor’s qualities, one of the weaker areas of his game is that he struggles to get by his man and often needs to play a one-two to have any chance of getting past his marker, so bringing in a left back with this quality is essential.
