Fake News? Football Scotland Give Update On Reported Celtic Target Malick Thiaw

As Celtic defender Christopher Jullien was gearing up to undergo his medical with Schalke yesterday, it was reported that Celtic were interested in taking their highly rated young centre back Malick Thiaw as a replacement for the big Frenchaman.

A loan deal with an option to buy was the rumoured deal, with a fee of around 8m euros reported as the price to sign the defender on a permanent basis.

However, Football Scotland have stated today that they have been told by club sources that the reported interest in the player isn’t accurate.

Here is the report on the Football Scotland website posted at 9:39 this morning.

“Reports linking Celtic with Schalke defender Malick Thiaw are wide of the mark.

Club sources have confirmed to Football Scotland that there are no plans to bring in the German defender this summer despite a need for a new centre-half.

The search for a new defender goes on as Christopher Jullien gets set to join the Bundesliga outfit.”

The initial report of interest from Celtic in the player came from a publication in Italy. I think that’s something Celtic fans will need to be wary of going forward in this transfer window, as quite a few of these reports have come from Italy and Portugal about players we are apparently in talks with or are ‘set to sign’ just like Semedo was last week which turned out to be complete rubbish.
