Celtic have this morning confirmed the signing of exciting Argentine left back Alexandro Bernabei on a 5 year contract.
The deal was expected to be announced on the 4th of July, as that would have been when his 3 match suspension was up after being sent off for his previous club Lanus, but Lanus decided to spoil the part with a 3am tweet announcing Bernabei’s transfer to Celtic, so Celtic were forced into making an early announcement it seems.
It is not yet clear what is going to happen with his suspension, whether his actual contract won’t start until the 4th of July with Celtic, or whether the club are just going to accept any suspension for him that will carry over, but it would be frustrating if he isn’t able to start the season in the side due to this.
From watching the video below, Bernabei looks like an ideal player to have playing as an inverted left back under Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.
As you’ll see, he is lighting fast, has good control of the ball, can go by players with ease, and importantly for the role, he seems very comfortable cutting inside and driving forwards through the centre of the midfield.
At just 21 years of age, it looks a great bit of business that Celtic have been able to agree a 5 year deal for this lad.
From all the videos I watched of our potential left back targets this summer, Bernabei looked by far the most exciting, and I’m sure he will be a great success in the green and white hoops.
