“Ajax Manager Has Already Spoken With The Player”

Dutch Newspaper De Telegraaf has this evening weighed in on the reports from earlier this morning that Ajax are lining up Sevco’s Calvin Bassey as a replacement for departing left back Lisandro Martinez, who is on the verge of signing for Manchester United in a £46m deal.

They have reported on their website around 18 mins ago at the time of typing, that their new manager, Alfred Schreuder is an admirer of the Nigerian international, and has already spoken on the phone with the player directly.

The article goes on to say that they estimate his value at 20m euros (£16.98m) but that Sevco apparently want 25m euros (£21.22m) for the two game wonder.

The article also claims Brighton are back interested in the player again, so Sevco think they can get a bit of a bidding war going for the player.

Sevco fans will be delighted with this news, because they get a kick out of selling their best players, probably because they know their club is skint and desperately needs the money, although they never admit it.

Another reason is that they desperately want to match Celtic’s player trading model, which they so far haven’t been very good at.

If Bassey does go, expect the SMSM to spin it as £25m or over with ‘add ons’ because it will delight their readership who are extremely eager to one day sell a player for the £25m that Celtic got for Kieran Tierney.
