After it was reported Calvin Bassey had left Sevco’s pre-season training camp to fly to Holland to complete his Ajax medical a few days ago, it was only a matter of time before an official announcement was made.
As I posted last night, Sevco fans have been obsessing over the fee they will receive for the player, with a 32 page thread on Follow Follow dedicated to mad ramblings over add ons and exchange rates.
Sevco announced on their own website that they received a club record fee for the player, but did not disclose the official amount.
However, Ajax apparently have to disclose the fee they pay and receive for players to the public, and they have confirmed the official amount on their website.
They state that Bassey has signed a 5 year contract, with the fee being 23m euros (£19.6m), with add ons that could take the total to 26.5m euros (£22.5m).
The guaranteed transfer fee goes down as the 3rd highest deal in Scottish football history, behind Moussa Dembele’s £19.7m move to Lyon and Kieran Tierney’s £25m to Arsenal.
There are no mention of a 10% sell on fee in the statement, this isn’t to say it isn’t in there, but it has to be noted that Ajax have not mentioned this.
Check out the statement from the Ajax website below.
