Celtic and Legia Warsaw cult hero Artur Boruc said an emotional goodbye to the game this evening as a fairly entertaining testimonial match for the excellent goalkeeper ended 2-2.
Celtic took the lead in the first half as captain Callum McGregor floated a wonderful ball over the top of the Legia defence, which was met by an acrobatic kick from Japanese midfielder Reo Hatate who lobbed Boruc beautifully to make it 1-0.
The goal came shortly after Boruc made a world class one on one save from James Forrest, showing a glimpse of why he was rated so highly during his very successful career.
Hatate then became the provider for Celtic’s 2nd, with a lovely through ball after a great ball originally from Stephen Welsh. He slipped it though to Maeda who slid it past Boruc with a first time effort to double Celtic’s lead.
Legia pulled one back second half as Cameron Carter-Vickers surprisingly seemed to get out-muscled by the Legia attacker as he ran past the big American and slotted it into the bottom corner past Scott Bain.
Legia then got the equaliser as their player chested the ball down from a cross at the edge of the area, to volley it first time and somehow found it’s way passed three Celtic players attempting to block the shot and into the back of the net.
Bourc was substituted at half time for Legia, but came back on for the last few seconds as he struggled to hold back the tears. He was then met by his teammates at the final whistle who lofted him up and down into the air.
It was a disappointing turnout attendance wise though, but this was due to Legia over-pricing the tickets and not lowering the prices until the week before.
