Celtic’s Anthony Ralston Lined Up For Shock Ligue 1 Move

This is certainly a surprising bit of news!

Celtic’s Scotland international right back, Anthony Ralston, is apparently on a shortlist for French giants Marseille, as they look to replace the outgoing Spanish right back Pol Lirola.

A Marseille fan media account on Twitter has named a shortlist of Fabien Centonze, Marcus Pedersen, Velentin Rosier, Stephane Singo and our own Tony Ralston.

With four other names on the shortlist, it’s unclear how far up or how far down’s Ralston name is on it, so it’s difficult whether Celtic should be anticipating receiving a bid for the much improved player.

Ralston had an incredible season for Celtic in helping us to win the league and cup double, and was rightly rewarded with calls up to the Scottish national team, where he also scored on his first start for his country in a Nations League qualifier in a 2-0 win against Armenia at Hampden Park.

He has gone from being someone who supporters completely disregarded, to now being a genuine fan’s favourite, and many fans would be upset to see him go, especially given his vital contribution to the team last season.

Personally, I don’t think Ralston would be interested in going to Marseille, not now that he has just singed a new long term deal at the club and will be part of Ange Postecoglou’s first teams plans once again this season.

He loves the club and also has a young family here, so I don’t think he’d be interested on moving abroad anytime soon.

But as I said in an article yesterday, interest in our players shouldn’t really come as a major surprise to anyone, and it is something we are just going to have to get used to as a support as we continue to be successful.
