Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has been installed as the bookies favourite to take over from Graham Potter at Brighton, with their own manager set to take over at Cheslea.
Betfair have him at 11/2 after previously having him at 5/1 to begin with last night, while Skybet have him at 6/1.
To put it into perspective, Graham Potter was 1/14 with Skybet yesterday to take over at Chelsea, and now they aren’t even taking odds on it.
There is a big difference between something they are confident in happening, and something they are just guessing at.
6/1 for Postecoglou to take over at Brighton is as good as saying “we don’t have a clue who’s in the frame, so we’ll add in a few names and put some odds beside them and try get the market started.”
Do I think Brighton would be interested in Ange? Absolutely. They’d be crazy not to consider such a successful manager with a fantastic style of football.
Do I think Ange would take the Brighton job?
No. Not for a second.
Yes, people point to Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard and say that people thought they were staying and they jumped ship as soon as an EPL club came in for them.
Unlike those two, I don’t believe Ange thinks managing in the EPL, especially at an average club, is the be all and end all.
Ange absolutely loves being the manager of Celtic. He knows how fortunate he is to be managing such a massive club, winning trophies, playing Champions League football, loved by the supporters and living in such a passionate football city like Glasgow, which he has talked about wanting to live that life after living a much quieter life in Japan.
He loves being Celtic manager. He said he is building something here and he is only just entering phase 2 of rebuilding our football club, and he is doing a terrific job so far.
Big Ange isn’t going anywhere.
