Be Careful What You Wish For…

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has come out this morning and stated that captain Callum McGregor is off to see a specialist today over his knee injured that forced him off the field in our 3-1 defeat to Leipzig on Wednesday night.

Worryingly, Ange reported that the injury is “significant” and “not short-term”.

Of course, we should get a clearer understanding of how long he will be out for over the next couple of days, but going off purely on what he’s said here, I suspect he may be out for a couple of months, perhaps longer.

So it looks like those who have questioned McGregor’s form this season, with some people actually saying he should be dropped, will actually get to see what that looks like.

Time will tell, but I think they will end up regretting that way of thinking and desperate for the day that he returns to action.

We’ve seen that with Starfelt. Some of our supports couldn’t stand him. Despite constant good performances, he was always the one who got it in the neck, a lot of the time for no apparent reason. “He gives me the fear” or “He looks shaky” were the go-to phrases when things were going well but they just wanted something to moan about.

And now for the last two or three weeks, all you hear from these same supporters is how much they want Starfelt back from injury and back into the heart of defence alongside CCV.

Sometimes, you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, and I think those doubting CalMac’s contribution to this Celtic team, are going to find out just how important he is to us as a player, but also as a leader.
