Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou seemed puzzled by one of the questions asked of him in this afternoon’s press conference for the League Cup game away to Motherwell tomorrow night.
And no wonder, the question was an absolute shocker, and just sums up how useless the mainstream media is in this country.
We didn’t hear the reporter introduce himself, but it sounded a lot like bungling reporter Mark Benstead, who famously told Celtic fans on Sky Sports News a few weeks back that Kyogo had missed training, only for him to appear running up and down the training pitch doing sprints as he said it!
Here is what the reporter asked Ange this afternoon regarding the upcoming World Cup:
“Does it concern you that there’s an unknown quantity to the season, you don’t know quite what you’re going to have when you come back from the World Cup?”
“It’s almost effectively two different seasons and you can be great in the first half and then it all goes to pieces”
After hearing that truly ridiculous question, Ange replied:
“I hope not mate!”
“I’m a bit more optimistic than that.”
“Look, you try to treat it, it’s obviously a little bit different here in Scotland, we kind of have a natural break around that time of the year.”
“Like you said, the only difference now is some of our players will be at a World Cup.”
“There are a lot of unknowns there, not just, for us, for every club I guess, not just in Scotland but around the world, in terms of what impact a World Cup has mid season.”
“But as I said, I kind of tend to focus on the stuff that’s known and what we can do to control the environment and make sure we’re ready and that’s what we’ll do.”
“And as I said, hopefully I’m a bit more optimistic than you mate and hopefully it doesn’t all fall apart.”
It really is no wonder that Ange has such visible contempt for the media in this country with such negative questions like that.
