World Cup Heartache For Celtic Ace Jota

Portugal have announced their 26 man squad for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which begins in just ten days time.

Celtic winger Jota, who is in great form this season, and has scored two Champions League goals, including a peach of a free-kick against Real Madrid in Celtic’s final group game, was in with a chance after being named in Portugal’s provisional 55 man squad.

But disappointingly, but perhaps not surprisingly for Jota, who has yet to be capped by his full national team, was not part of the 26 man squad selected by head coach Fernando Santos.

When you are competing with guys like Cristiano Ronaldo and Jao Felix in the attacking berths, then it is always going to be extremely difficult.

The fact that Jota was even included in the provisional squad should give Jota a lot of confidence though, because it shows that the national team manager is watching him and likes what he sees, so he just needs to keep performing well for Celtic and he will no doubt eventually make the breakthrough.

Check out the squad below.
