Celtic Fans All Seem To Agree On One Major Concern

I stayed up and watched the match against Everton last night in the Sydney Super Cup.

I’m glad I did because even though we drew the game 0-0 and eventually lost on penalties, I thought we played really well.

We controlled pretty much the entire 90 minutes, only really limiting Everton to 3/4 attacks on the break.

Some of our passing and movement was top class. I thought Hatate was outstanding. Both Greg Taylor and Anthony Ralston were also excellent at full back.

However, for some reason we brought our Champions League shooting boots with us last night because despite numerous great chances to score, we just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.

That part really was frustrating to watch.

But another real concern was our woeful penalties last night as we lost 4-2 to Everton, and particularly the one skied over the bar by Giorgos Giakoumakis.

I don’t know what’s happened with the big Greek striker’s penalties since coming to the club last summer, but that is him now missed three out of his four penalties at Celtic, a really terrible record for a striker, or any player for that matter.

But even stranger considering that the season before he came to Celtic he finished top goal scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie, scoring nine out of the ten penalties he hit that season as his side VVV Venlo were relegated.

Despite it being a friendly, it seems that Celtic fans, including myself, are fed up with Giakoumakis missing penalties, and the feeling amongst the support seems to be that he’s had enough attempts at them now and shouldn’t be allowed to hit them in future.
