Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers was quite rightfully delighted to be called up to the USA squad for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
CCV has been terrific since signing for Celtic on loan from Spurs last summer, before making the move permanent this year.
He beat of competition from Ibrox rival James Sands to be in contention for one of the centre back pairings in Qatar.
But unfortunately for Carter-Vickers, he hasn’t made the starting line up for the game against Wales tonight, with MLS defender Walker Zimmerman and Tim Ream of Fulham instead starting at the back.
Of course, unlike forward positions who are more likely to change as teams go from game to game, unless they suffer heavy defeat or one of those players gets injured or suspended, it is likely that they will also start the next two group matches together, with CCV remaining on the bench.
The decision will come as a disappointment for Cameron and Celtic supporters alike, who would have been hoping to see him in action during the tournament and against Wales tonight.
Let’s just hope that Wales give them a drubbing and CCV gets a chance in the next games.
