The official Celtic FC Twitter account has sent out a tremendous tweet tonight after Japan shocked the World and beat Spain 2-1, topping the group and dumping out multiple time winners Germany.
Celtic star Daizen Maeda was instrumental in the win, and you can read about his contribution to Japan’s success here: Celtic Star Proves Doubters Wrong As Japan Shock The World β Champions 67
Maeda will now face fellow Celtic teammate Josip Juranovic in the last 16 as Japan face off against Croatia, guaranteeing at least one Celtic player will be in the quarter-finals.
Both players will be joined in the last 16 by Australia’s Aaron Mooy, who’s country face off against Argentina on Saturday night, and USA’s Cameron Carter-Vickers, who’s country play the Netherlands the same afternoon.
So, Celtic have sent four current players to the World Cup group stages, and now every one of them have made it through to the last 16.
It is a tremendous achievement and I personally cannot wait to support them all in the last 16.
