Celtic’s Croatian World Cup star, Josip Juranovic, is once again the subject of heavy transfer speculation, after a summer transfer window of being linked with big clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester Utd.
Reports came out earlier today from Spain, confirming that Atletico Madrid scouts will be in attendance in Qatar for Croatia’s World Cup quarter final match against Brazil, to run the rule over Celtic’s right-back.
And now, it seems another club has entered the race to sign the 27 year old.
The Scottish Sun is reporting tonight that La Liga side Real Sociedad have now entered the race for Juranovic, with the newspaper quoting the figure of any deal to be “£10m plus”.
On paper, you’d maybe think Juranovic would prefer to stay at Celtic than go to Sociedad, but they are actually sitting in third place in La Liga currently, two places above Atletico in fifth, albeit with only 14 games played, and it would be a chance to play in one of the top two best league’s in the world, in a much better climate and way of life.
In my opinion, I think if Juranovic was ever going to leave Celtic, it would be to a top team in England or perhaps Atletico, a team who are most likely going to be playing Champions League football next season.
Of course, he will be able to get that at Celtic, but at 27, he will be looking to get a big move for big wages you would imagine, and go to as big a club as possible.
I don’t buy the news over the last couple of days that Celtic will be negotiating a new contract with him once he returns from Qatar.
We’ve already brought in his replacement in Alistair Johnston, he’s off. It’s just a case of who to and how much we’ll get in for him.
