“Tell Me You Don’t Watch Scottish Football” – Celtic Fans Rinse Transfermarkt as SPFL MVP Is Announced

Transfermarkt is a fantastic source of information, particularly when it comes to things like how long a player has left on their contract, the positions they play and you can also view who player’s agents are, as well as a whole host of different team and player statistics.

What the site is not good at however, in fact, very poor at, is player values.

Every time I see a Celtic’s players apparent transfer value in there, I shake my head as clearly whoever makes up these values doesn’t have a clue, because they are always embarrassingly low, even for our best players.

But the most embarrassing thing, for Transfermarkt that is, is that they actually have the Ibrox squad as a whole as well as most individual players, valued more than Celtic players, despite Celtic being current Champions, currently top of the league by 9 points, and half the Ibrox team entering the last few months of their contracts.

And just to add insult to injury, they have also published an MVP top 10 of players in Scotland.

A level headed person would probably assume someone like Jota, Matt O’Riley or Reo Hatate might be at No.1 spot (It doesn’t include players at the World Cup).

But, laughably, it is none of those players, in fact Jota is the only one of those three players to be included in the top 10.

No, the most valuable player in Scottish football is apparently Mr 2 goals a season, Ryan Kent.

I mean, if you are going to put your reputation on the line and come out with this type of thing, then at least get someone with some actual knowledge and who regularly watches Scottish football to actually do it!
