Former Celtic prospect Ben Doak looks set to have a very big future in the game.
After signing his first professional contract with Liverpool recently, it looks like Jurgen Klopp will slowly be introducing him into the first team after making his debut in a substitute appearance against Derby in a League Cup game in November.
He is now trending on Twitter tonight after a brilliant cameo role as a late substitute against AC Milan in a friendly, as he set up a goal for Darwin Nunez late on to seal a 4-1 win for Liverpool.
Fans are saying that Doak is “electric” and “special” and his contribution made manager Jurgen Klopp “smile like a fool.”
I don’t know how other Celtic fans feel currently about Doak. From what I have read before there is mixed feelings in the lad between supporters wishing him well to others basically saying the opposite and feeling like he showed a lack of loyalty to Celtic, considering we had got him to this level and he left before signing a professional contract with us, which meant the club only received a £600k compensation fee.
I do understand both sides, and to be honest I was a lot more angrier at the situation at the time and did feel myself that he was being disloyal, but as time has gone on I feel we just have to accept that he made the decision because he felt that was best for him and his career and life, and I’m now happy to wish him all the best at Liverpool.
But I must admit, it does also make me sad that he isn’t ripping it up in a Celtic shirt, and also that fact that we didn’t even get 2-3 years out of him before he moved on like we did with Tierney.
