Sky Sports Anthony Joseph Gives Juranovic Update

It’s now been three days since Stephen McGowan’s piece in the Daily Mail confirming that Monza are “closing in” on a move for Celtic’s Croatian right-back Josip Juranovic.

He reported that Monza were looking to take the player on loan for the rest of the season with an obligation to buy for just £7m in the summer.

It appears, thankfully, that those reports were not entirely accurate, as Juranovic still remains at Celtic, with the latest talk being that he is holding out to see what offers he gets from the EPL, plus Tornio also appear to be back in the race for the World Cup standout.

I say thankfully as Celtic should at least be aiming to get eight figures here in my opinion. £7m would just not be acceptable for a player of his proven quality on the biggest stage.

And last night, Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph gave his insight into the Juranovic situation.

Speaking to Celtic Fans TV, Joseph said:

“On Juranovic, I’ve actually got to be careful with what I say here, as we haven’t reported any further update yet, for good reason.”

“There are a lot of clubs in for Juranovic. And ones a lot bigger than Monza.”

“I know there’s reports in Scotland saying he is close to signing for Monza, but I don’t think he’s close to signing for anyone at the moment.”

“We’ve reported (Sky Sports) in the past, interest from Premier League clubs. We named Chelsea as one of the clubs.”

“We know there’s a lot of other Premier League clubs who are interested as well.”

“And in La Liga as well, we know Barcelona and Atletico Madrid registered their interest, and that interest hasn’t changed, that hasn’t gone away, although there’s been no formal bids for him from those clubs.”

“He’s clearly in demand, and Celtic have been braced for these offers ever since the World Cup.”

“He had a great World Cup and was one of the best players at the tournament.”

“He’s going to be 28, so this is possibly his last chance for a big, big move, I’m talking like a big money move, I know it’s hard to get a bigger club that Celtic.”

“But, I’d be very surprised if that move is Monza, and I’d be very surprised if he went for a fee as low as £7m.”

Great insight from Anthony Joseph here, who also confirmed that he does not believe Juranovic has a release clause as some fans seem to keep speculating.
