Monza Deal For Celtic Star Off? Alternative Lined Up

After Stephen McGowan claimed four days ago now that Serie A side Monza were ‘closing in’ on Celtic’s Croatian right-back Josip Juranovic, there has been no further update on that apparent deal.

McGowan wrote that Monza were offering to take the player on loan for the rest of the season with an obligation to buy for £7m in the summer.

However, fresh reports have since came out that Celtic and Juranovic are holding off for more clubs to make their offers, specifically, EPL clubs.

And it looks like Monza have already lined up a replacement for Juranovic, reading between the lines of the latest update from transfer guru Fabrizo Romano.

He tweeted:

“Olympique Marseille are prepared to agree a new loan deal for Pol Lirola to Serie A side Monza, as current deal with Elche would be terminated.”

“Discussions ongoing on the buy option clause to be included in the agreement.”

Pol Lirola is a right-back, and it seems unlikely that they would be going for two right-backs in this window and also plan to pay up for both of them in the summer.

If Celtic are to sell Juranovic, for me, we should at least be getting eight figures for the player, and as much of that up front as possible.

I don’t really trust these Italian clubs to suddenly find £7m plus down the back of the sofa come the summer if they can’t afford even half of that fee now.
