After the latest updates we’ve had over the last couple of days, it’s not looking likely that Celtic will complete the signing of our No.1 striker target this season, Cho Gue-sung.
We’ve been talking to this guy since before the World Cup and despite news at the start of the week that Celtic were “confident” of getting a deal done, it now seems to be slipping further and further away.
He’s gone from mentioning Celtic directly to not talking about us at all and basically saying he most likely wants to go to Mainz out of the options available as he has a Korean teammate that plays for them that he is close with.
He was then saying he’s been advised by Park Ji-sung to stay until the summer and them move to Europe then.
And now this, the website 90 Min are reporting that Cho has been offered to several different English sides, including three EPL teams.
They report: “Three Premier League clubs have been offered the chance to sign South Korea striker Cho Gue-sung, 90min understands, with Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers already keen.”
“Cho has been offered to Premier League trio Leeds, Everton and Southampton, as well as Championship duo Burnley and West Brom. The Clarets are currently top of the Championship table, while a January boost could help the Baggies push into the playoffs.”
And it was just yesterday that Cho stated publicly his desires to play in the EPL.
There’s still a chance the deal could get done, but I’m no longer getting my hopes up as it seems he doesn’t really fancy coming here all that much.
Apparently, we are still keen on fellow Korean striker Oh Hyeon-gyu, and although we have been linked with a few other strikers recently, I could see us brining in Oh instead in this window.
Why are we still even bothering with this chancer.
He has shown he has absolutely zero commitment to our cause or else he would be already busting a gut in training at Lennoxtown to earn a place in today’s semi final.
The time to move on from this waste of time and space has long gone.
