Urawa Deal Off! – Yet Another Twist In Giakoumakis Transfer Saga

It appears early this afternoon, with just four days left of the winter transfer window to go, that there is yet more drama in Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis transfer away from the club.

It was brought to us yesterday that Celtic had turned down Atlanta United’s loan bid with an option to buy for the big striker, which meant that the only offer accepted was the one from Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds.

This saw Giakoumakis pictured in the airport yesterday as he was due to fly to Holland to complete a medical before flying back to Glasgow and then heading over to Japan to complete the deal.

I saw some Atlanta United fans remaining patient however, noting that when their club put they mind to something, they normally get it.

And it looks like that has actually happened here with Giakoumakis, as it is being reported today that they have launched a new bid of up to £4.3m which Celtic have now accepted.

So despite passing his medial with Urawa, it looks like Giakoumakis has now decided that he wants to go with his first choice and move to the MLS with Atlanta United.

For the time being anyway!
