On loan Celtic goalkeeper, Vasilis Barkas was involved in an incredible ten goal thriller tonight as his side Utrecht drew 5-5 away to AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Eredivise.
I was keeping an eye on this game tonight on livescore and watched the goals at half-time before watching the second half.
It was an incredible end-to-end game played at 100mph with both sides refusing to take a backwards step.
I must say however, the overall quality of football on display, particular in defence for both teams, was diabolical at times!
AZ Alkmaar are currently 2nd in the league, only one point behind Feyenoord, and if they end up getting into the Champions League next season and carry on playing that way, they could very well be looking at beating Rangers record as the worst Champions League team in history!
Okay, maybe that was too far, they surely won’t be that pathetically bad, but they might not be too far away unless they severely tighten up at the back, because although they scored five goals, they weren’t all that impressive in the final third at times either. A lot of their players were making terrible decisions.
And Barkas, well apparently he’s done well in Holland on loan this season, but he didn’t impress me tonight.
He wasn’t necessarily at fault for any of the goals, apart from perhaps the one save he did make in the game fell straight to the Utrecht striker to slot in, although he did pretty well to save the original shot from close range.
He’s just a goalkeeper that doesn’t really make saves! I think in his entire Celtic career he made less than a handful of good saves, and that isn’t even an exaggeration!
