Oh dear.
It appears that the relationship between Giorgos Giakoumakis and Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is ending on sour note.
Giakoumakis, who is reportedly on the verge of sealing a switch to MLS side Atlanta United, was obviously not happy with Big Ange’s comments at his press conference today.
Postecoglou, when asked for an update on Giakoumakis’ reported exit, replied:
“To be honest, it’s not on my radar any more. I’ll probably hear it about the same time as you guys.” “Maybe, if you’re on Instagram you’ll hear about it earlier than me.”
It’s not clear what he meant by this, but some fans seem to think the comment perhaps relates to a story that Giakoumakis posted of him standing on the sidelines waiting to come on with an emoji of an egg timer, with some fans feeling he was alluding to counting down the minutes until he moves on and no longer has to be someone that starts on the bench.
There wasn’t too much made of this in the media at all, but everything will get back to Big Ange one way or the other, especially if it’s seen like his player is potentially having a subtle dig at him over social media.
And it looks like he has retaliated to Postecoglou’s comments tonight with yet another subtle dig, posting a story around 11pm UK time of a clip from one of his Greece teammates with big yellow letters over the video saying “Starting XI”.
Giakoumakis hasn’t posted since the 15th of January, Big Ange seems to have a dig at him about his Instagram posts and now all of a sudden he’s posting a “starting XI” pic, one of the main reasons he reportedly wants to leave Celtic.
