Former Celtic striker Charlie Nicholas has today hit out at “Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor, branding the player “pathetic” over his antics against Partick Thistle at the weekend.
McGregor appeared to try to stop Thistle attacker Scott Tiffoney from scoring, after it has been agreed by both sides that Thistle be allowed to score after Malik Tillman’s disgraceful antics of taking the ball from the Thistle defender and scroing against them as they attempted to pass the ball back to the Ibrox side in an act of sportsmanship after they put the ball out for an injury in Tillman moments earlier.
He wrote in his Daily Express column:
“What was Rangers keeper Allan McGregor looking to achieve by half-heartedly trying to stop Scott Tiffoney from scoring on Sunday? Ibrox manager Michael Beale had already told his players to step aside and let Partick Thistle equalise after the mix-up with Malik Tillman’s goal.”
“Tiffoney ran unopposed up the pitch until he got to McGregor, who decided to make life as difficult as he could for the striker to net past him. Why did he have to go through the whole rigmarole? Some people might have found it funny but I thought it was pretty pathetic from McGregor.”
“Credit has to go to Beale for letting Thistle score their goal (mostly) uncontested. He quickly accepted the misunderstanding with Tillman, who had been stricken on the deck when his team-mates kicked the ball out of play for him.”
“It was a great gesture from Rangers but some of the gloss was taken off by McGregor’s antics. It was also very harsh for Partick boss Ian McCall and his backroom staff to lose their jobs after the game.”
Nicholas is right, it was absolutely pathetic from McGregor.
But do we honestly expect anything less from a scumbag like that?
I hate the , guy. Mg son is 18 , I myself live the hoops but decided to play for other team. H ealways arrived at ibrox an hour or 2 early so he could get a selfie , maybe a signature. He’s got pics with most of the players but when he asked magreggor he told my boy to f+×k off . The man is a disgrace
