Pundit Admits “Complete Player” May Be ‘Only Rival’ To Celtic Star For POTY Award

Celtic’s Japanese sensation Kyogo Furuhashi looks a certainty to be named as Scotland’s Player of the Year come the end of season awards after firing in his 26th goal of the season at the weekend against Hearts in the Scottish Cup quarter final.

The electric striker has been in fantastic form all season domestically and it is going to be tough for any other player to get their hands on that POTY trophy.

However, speaking on Clyde SSB last night, Kenny Miller believes that Kyogo’s countryman, Reo Hatate, might be the ‘only rival’ to Kyogo taking home the famous award.

“I think Hatate might be one of the only ones who could maybe rival Kyogo for the POTY awards come the end of the season, because he’s been absolutely outstanding.” said Miller.

“His own manager has talked about him on numerous occasions over the last couple of weeks about his constant strive to get better.”

“His performances are definitely getting better and he seems like the complete player at the moment.”

Miller is spot on here, yes, Kyogo is banging in the goals but in terms of overall performance, most games for us Hatate and also in my opinion Mooy are typically the best players on the park for us.

Hatate was good when he came in for us half way through last season, but by his own admission was extremely fatigued at times after playing a full season in Japan and struggling with the travel to and from for international appearances, but this season he looks totally refreshed and has taken his game on leaps and bounds.

His consistency is also to be admired. Again, last season and no doubt down to the fatigue he mentioned he was very quiet or poor in a number of games, but this season you’d struggle to find more than a couple of poor performances from him. He really has been exceptional game after game and he is getting better and better.

Do you think Hatate could rival Kyogo for POTY?

Perhaps even Mooy or Greg Taylor who I’ve seen talked about amongst supporters are with a shout of getting it?
