It was just a few months ago that Killie pie and Monster Munch connoisseur Kris Boyd was sitting live in the Sky Sports studio claiming that fellow obese ‘Rangers’ striker Alfredo Morelos was still “the best player in the league”.
But it now seems that ‘Boydy’ has seen sense and has realised that the Colombian ned is not all that he had been cracked up to be.
Instead, Boyd has now sensationally claimed that Rangers would actually be top of the league if they had Celtic’s Japanese star Kyogo playing up front for them, stating “it would be difficult to argue against that.”
He told Sky as quoted in The Record: “For me, the difference between the two teams at the moment is the main striker. Celtic have one who is a threat, you switch off for a second against Kyogo and he’s away.”
“His pace and movement terrifies defenders. It is crucial Rangers stick together and don’t start getting dragged all over the place, teams retreat that 10-15 yards because of his pace and movement.”
When asked if Rangers would be top of the league with Kyogo in their ranks, Boyd was unflinching. He added: “I think it would be very difficult to put an argument up against it.”
“I probably would say that. Both teams have fantastic players but the difference for me has been the goals Kyogo has scored and what he has been able to bring to the Celtic team, he terrifies defenders.”
What Boyd fails to realise is that Celtic have a whole system and style of play that revolves around finding Kyogo in the box so he can put the ball in the back of the net.
All these balls we cut back inside the box are designed for Kyogo to get on the end of, just as he did both times against Rangers in the League Cup final.
He’s scored 26 goals in all competitions for Celtic this season and our manager Ange Postecoglou is still not happy that his teammates aren’t finding his runs often enough, and we have brilliant midfielders and wingers compared to Rangers.
Who the hell in that team is good enough to see Kyogo’s runs and get the ball to him the way the likes of Mooy, Hatate and Jota do for Celtic?
Does Boyd seriously think Kyogo would put Rangers at the top of the table when he has to rely on the likes of Ryan Kent, Fashion Sakala and John Lundstram to feed balls into him?
No chance!
