After diluting another 7 million confetti shares, to raise £1.9m (monthly wage bill?) just yesterday, Douglas Park has today done “walking away” as he leaves his position as ‘Rangers’ chairman.
Their club statement read:
“Douglas Park, who has been chairman of Rangers International Football Club PLC (RIFC) for three years, has decided to step down from his role. The RIFC Board unanimously agreed to instal the current vice-chairman, John Bennett, as the club’s new chairman.”
Park added: “It’s been a great honour to serve the club as a director and chairman. During my eight years in office, we endured extraordinary pressures. I am glad we have stabilised and strengthened the club and it is now time for me to hand over the baton to a new chairman for the next stage in the club’s development. I look forward to continuing to attend matches supporting the team, and I wish John and all at Rangers Football Club the very best.”
Park’s resignation also comes at a time where the club have still yet to post their latest set of financial accounts, with the deadline being on the 31st March. They are now officially classed as “overdue”.
It does make you wonder though – is Park in reality jumping off a sinking ship in order to not have to deal with all the mess when the sh*t hits the fan?
Why leave 2 months before the end of the season when from an Ibrox point of view, he could potentially bow out with a Scottish Cup trophy?
There are a lot of questions that to be asked and a lot of digging that should be getting done, but just like with the old club, the Scottish media are simply too afraid to do the job that needs done, for fear of upsetting their favourite club.
Celtic fans have had their say on Twitter over the news tonight.
