Celtic manger Brendan Rodgers told us several times after the sale of Kyogo that he needs to be replaced before the window shuts.
That wasn’t some surprising statement, that is blatantly obvious what you need to do when you sell your No.1 striker half way through the season.
He even talked yesterday about not wanting to fall out with people like last time over previous transfer window debacles.
And what did this Celtic board do? They let him down once again.
They haven’t just let down Rodgers though, they have let down the rest of this Celtic squad that deserve help from a top quality striker and they have let down the supporters of the club massively.
I have said before I was pretty relaxed about Kyogo going because I found it incomprehensible that we didn’t have a top striker lined up to replace him.
If that deal was to fall through I expected us to have a back up option ready to sign and even a back up option to the back up option, because that is how football clubs of our size and stature are supposed to work.
We are supposed to be professional. We are supposed to be prepared. We are supposed to continuously be looking to improve and strengthen in every transfer window we enter.
I am pleased we have signed Schlupp and delighted with Jota, but those two are not a replacement for Kyogo and to not get one in, even on loan until the end of the season which is the very least we should expect, this inept, utterly useless Celtic board cannot even do that!
And no wonder Celtic supporters are furious on Twitter.
Check out some of the comments to our deadline day shambles below:
Scott Mackay: Happy Jota is back, Schlupp will do until KT arrives in the summer but I am stunned that we have let our main striker go and not replaced him. All the chat about being prepared and knowing for months makes it all the worse!
EoinRL: Absolutely disgrace
Bhoy in red: Pathetic but not the least bit surprising
Sara: Pathetic and come out of that window. Well done Brendan. You’ve qualified for the next phase in Europe. How do we reward you?? Sell Kyogo and loan Schlupp. Embarrassing. Love Jota coming back but we are weaker and going to have to see Yang until the end of the season
Baresi: Shambolic but not at all surprised is the worst part!
James McCallister: Not replacing Kyogo is criminal, schlupp can play LB or LW so gives us cover there and Jota is an excellent piece of business but really disappointing not to replace Kyogo, Maeda will play through the middle more then
CC: The striker situation is a disgrace
Paul: Delighted with Jota being back, but that is a f*cking shocker of a window for us.
Martin Rodgers: Disgraceful. We’re like 2 injuries up top away from not having a Striker.
Mr Quinn: Pathetic
Tyler: Embarrassing seriously amateur stuff.
Amazing, the whole window seems to have passed all these folk bye that are raging. Really, seriously. If that is the case which it appears to be then may I ask what they are actually enraged about? Could it be they actually feel a bit hoodwinked now that they digest the fact that we are not making progress but declining yet again. A board of dinosaurs who giveth with one hand and take away with the other. I could go on but really what is the point.
Our bench on Saturday had 3 CB’s, Scales can play LB, 2 RB’s , 2 GK’s, 4 Wingers, 1 striker with Daizen as a backup, and 5 CM’s and now we have Schlup to add to the mix.
We’ve got rid of deadwood in Bernbai, Johnston, Oh, Haska, Iwata, Kobayashi, Siegrest, Lagerbielca, Holm, Welsh, Kwon, Shaw, Palma all out this year.
Kyogo is past his prime and doesn’t fit into a Rodgers team.
Got through to CL qualifiers, won one trophy already and going rather well in the league.
You don’t do stupid panic business in the January window, our board is acting in a professional way and ensuring we have a good strong club for now and the future.
Too many of our “support” act entitled and want us to spend silly money
This is the usual nonsense we get from the board PL doesn’t want us to far and too big for the Scottish league and his blood pressure will go sky high again when we near 8 in a row as we all know the Masonic agreement in place between us and sevco .
So if he or any other member of our board think that they can pull the wool over our eyes again after the previous debacle with Lawell jnr doing his best to derail our holy grail a few years back , now he’s gonna throw a spanner in the works with BR and its odds on he won’t sign a extension to his contract after the board going back on there word yet again Martin o neill is another scalp that PL has in his trophy cabinet so who will be next to disrupt our future plans distancing ourselves from Scotlands Shame.
You’ve read it first as I’ve been preaching this for years that that man is holding our club back as he forever drills it into us that we need to be shoulder to shoulder with that mob .
Regards Francis
Why did schlupp sign for celtic? Because nobody else wanted him
