Celtic supporters were quite rightly enraged after Daizen Maeda’s perfectly good equaliser was chopped off against Hibs due to VAR Alan Muir ruling the goal out in what was reported as a “factual decision”.
The problem was, this wasn’t a factual decision at all from Muir, it was a total guess that the ball had gone out of play in which it hadn’t done.
Without any evidence for this whatsoever, Muir wrongly chopped off the goal and Celtic lost the game 2-1.
And tonight, reported by Sky Sports News, it has been revealed, as we already knew, that Maeda’s goal should have stood!
The short article on their website reads:
Daizen Maeda’s equaliser for Celtic at Hibs should have stood.
That is the verdict of the SFA’s key match incident panel after reviewing last weekend’s 2-1 defeat for the Hoops at Easter Road.
The 82rd-minute goal was ruled out by VAR after it was deemed the ball had gone out of play before Alistair Johnston’s cross.
An official apology from head of refereeing Willie Collum must now come very soon as this is totally unacceptable.
Thankfully, we are so far ahead in the league and with Rangers also losing that same weekend, the damage is limited, but that isn’t the point.
The point is that Alan Muir is a totally incompetent official and he is not fit to be refereeing at this level.
Not just this mistake, he has made countless of terrible decisions that have gone against Celtic especially, and he must be taken to task by the SFA.
Check out the angry replies from Celtic fans on Twitter below:
Rjay Bhoy: Aw that’s fine then cheers lads glad that’s it sorted
Gastro Celtic: No.1 Sack Alan Muir. No.2 Sack whomever on the review panel was the 1x who thought it was a correct decision – clearly another torn faced Hun like Muir
kate dunbar: That’s ok then so Alan muir once again cheated celtic few times he’s done that time for celtic to demand hes never anywhere near our games again
Barrybhoy: Muir has cheated Celtic yet again. When he retires and does the Hun “after dinner speaking” circuit he will have lots of tales to tell of the points he robbed us of.
cannot be blank: So Alan muir stepped in and cheated. His hunnery couldn’t help it which is why he needs sacked.
Craig Salisbury: So it wasn’t a factual decision?
AG: Is that it? Just admit it was the wrong decision and move on like it never happened? Sack that cheating hun c*nt Alan Muir you pathetic shower of corrupt b*stards.
That is what the review panel has said but where is Collum, the Head of refereeing?
He spent time going over the Dundee United non goal yet six days after the Easter Road decision we’ve heard nothing yet we do know the Muir has been given the weekend off.
Certainly, the optics don’t look good, but I’m actually happy that the whole of officialdom is now folding in on itself.
I always thought VAR would show our officials up for how poor they are however their incompetence in the VAR room, and their desperation to appear important rather than efficient, is now highlighting incompetence at every level of our sport.
And this is why we must not get rid of var. we will then go back to honest mistakes with no way to hold them accountable.
This wasn’t an error of judgement it was 100% cheating….. He stated to the referee that he viewed the incident from a factual point, he lied… an example must be shown, sack him.
This wasn’t a honest mistake ! This guy is the joint head of VAR and knows the rules very well … he choose to ignore these rules and protocol to disadvantage one team. Why ? Anywhere in else there would be an investigation into match fixing because nothing else makes sense as to why he comes up with this decision! 1. Match fixing 2. Unconscious bias 3. Bias 4. Incompetence. Remember not a mistake so what is it ? Every one of the above proves he needs removed from post immediately! He choose to cheat and lie about it … gross misconduct.
