Elation As Celtic Reach Final, But My God We Were Terrible

As I’m sure pretty much every Celtic supporter is feeling right now after our penalty shootout victory over Aberdeen to reach the Scottish Cup final, my two overriding emotions are a mixture of relief and elation.

Elation because we are in the final of the Scottish Cup after an incredibly dramatic 3-3 draw went to the lottery of a penalty shootout, and relief because we should never, ever have been in that position in the first place.

As a whole and individually, we were shockingly bad today, with only James Forrest getting pass marks for his performance today in my view.

Defensively, we were atrocious. Absolutely atrocious. I actually cannot believe how bad we were.

CCV and Scales both looked like they were towing a caravan all game and CCV couldn’t complete a pass to save himself at times, which is not like him at all.

Our full-backs Taylor and Johnston were utterly abysmal. Why can two international defenders not stop a cross coming in to the box between them? Johnston in particular seems to almost encourage wingers to put crosses into the box he stands that far off them.

Rodgers seriously needs to get a hold of them on Monday morning because this cannot be allowed to continue or we can kiss the league title goodbye, because teams look like scoring every time the attack us at the moment.

Kuhn and Yang were very poor also. I feel a bit for Yang as he is much better on the right hand side in my opinion but Rodgers seems to prefer Kuhn playing there, who was so predictable every time he got the ball, the German would cut inside and float in an easy ball for Aberdeen to head clear.

Forrest coming on and scoring the second goal was a game changer at the time and I would like to see him start next weekend against Dundee.

Credit to Joe Hart for saving the final penalty and one before it, but the decision to let Hart take the game deciding penalty, was utterly outrageous.

It was almost like one big joke and I couldn’t believe what I was watching and the decision was proven even more bizarre when the likes of AJ and Iwata went after him and both hit great penalties.

However, ending on a positive and extremely pleased to be heading to Hampden on the 25th May, but we really, really need to get our act together all over the pitch and especially at the back.

Your 100%, been saying it for months you need your 2 full backs and 2 wingers doing the basics that we coach U10s,12s ……stopping crosses takes the pressure the centre pairing , no point in full backs tip toeing down the wing if they can’t defend . If we dare go into Europe with Taylor,Yang,Palma on the team sheet then we are just standing still , we might get away with it this season but that’s it. If only we could pic up players like Arron Mooy ….a player who knew his remit and carried it out to a tee, so so consistent , James Forrest and Calum had a similar quality , these guys just knew there job…..but compare that to the Yangs and Palma’s of this world I just despair and I thank God I’m not a Kyogo waiting on them to get the ball by the first man let alone to his Golden foot. As was said a few days ago our board have spent 50/60 million on players that didn’t add one thing to our season ….its time for BR to take control of incoming players …he couldn’t do any worse.
