“Pathetic Offer!”, “For What Game?” – Celtic Fans React As Leeds Bid For O’Riley

Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley is a wanted man as we we begin to approach the final 24 hours of this summer’s transfer window.

Reports came out at the start of the week that Celtic had rejected a bid from Serie A side Bologna for the player and that the club expected further interest and bids to be made for the player.

Then came the news from Sky Sports that both English Championship sides Leeds United and Southampton were interested in the Danish under 21 international.

And tonight, Leeds have turned that interest into a concrete offer, making a £10m bid for O’Riley, which Celtic have rightfully in my view rejected.

Sky Sports Scotland Twitter account put out a post a short while ago confirming the bid, along with a post on their website, which reads:

Celtic have rejected a £10m bid from Leeds for Matt O’Riley.

The Scottish champions have reiterated to Leeds that they consider  the midfielder not for sale.

Sky Sports News revealed earlier this week that Leeds had made an approach for the 22-year-old.

The Championship club have also confirmed the signing of Werder Bremen midfielder Ilia Gruev today, and are closing in on Glen Kamara from Rangers.

And Celtic fans have reacted to that news in the comments of that Twitter post from Sky Sports:

Craig Salisbury: Quite right,we don’t need to sell anyone else

John El: For what game?

Scott Copeland: Champions League for the Championship? Righto……

Steven Daley: One more crack at the Champions League Matt then go where you want next year

Jamesy:Leeds trying to get Matt O’Riley before they have to settle for glen kamara what a comedown that is

kev doc: Double it

EireBhoy: if Leeds are paying 5m for Kamara then Matt is 25m

WhatsIwata: 10 million I’d be embarrassed if I was a leeds fan, pathetic offer.

I don’t think O’Riley has any interest in swapping the Champions League for the Championship and Celtic have done the right thing rejecting this offer.

Matt has already said how much he is enjoying working under Brendan Rodgers and that Celtic is the best place for him to develop, so I don’t believe he is in any rush to leave.
